Both being liberals that grew up with a hard core conservative dad, we usually include politics in our chats. He wondered out loud “How did Rick Snyder ever convince the people of Michigan to vote for him?”
My response was something like “He ran as one tough nerd, an outsider who could fix all that was wrong with Michigan.”
After giving this some thought I came to the conclusion that he did in fact harness the disgust Americans have with government for a successful campaign.
Only now, after seeing the increase in their taxes and the reduction of their wages/benefits are many voters in Michigan seeing foolishness of believing Snyder in the last election.
In politics it is all about getting the proper message to the voters.
Perhaps if the union forces had worked on a campaign promising to lower wages and benefits for all they would have been successful in their attempt at stopping the right to work(for less) law.
You may have already seen this video about how the good people in Troy Michigan beat the tea party’s no taxes campaign to get approval for a small tax increase needed to keep the local library open.
This is a good example of a good campaign. Watch the video and think about it.
