Left Handed People

Between 10 and 12 percent of the people on earth are “lefties.”

In the history of the world this 10 or 12 percent have had a tough go.

“For thousands of years, the Devil has been associated with the left hand in various ways and is normally portrayed as being left-handed in pictures and other images. In the seventeenth century it was thought that the Devil baptised his followers with his left-hand and there are many references in superstitions to the “left-hand side” being associated with evil. As an example, in France it was held that witches greet Satan “avec le bras gauche” or with the left hand. It is also considered that we can only see ghosts if we look over our left shoulder and that the Devil watches us over the left shoulder.”

In the late 1800s and early 1900s American baseball players that batted left handed were introduced as wrong side batters.

Because of this prejudice against lefthanders parents throughout the world have done immeasurable damage to their children by insisting they use their right hand to feed themselves and other tasks requiring the hands.  Based on the thoughts prevalent in the world we live(d) in.

Now close your eyes and go back to your own childhood. Go back as far as you can when you were just a little tyke. And then use your imagination to do the following.

Imagine being a child who is constantly harassed for doing something that seems natural to you, not only by your parents but also possibly by your pastor, your friends and playmates.

Imagine the pain of having the people you most admire in this world telling you “You are doing it wrong.”

Do you feel the pain?

Now go back through this story and change the words left handed to gay.

Hmmmm?

Just something to think about in your spare time.  😉

    • Yes and I was going to thank you for the idea. Sorry to be late but thank you! I get my ideas of what to write about from any and all sources. Usually from conversations with people I meet or know. After reading your post yesterday I immediately wrote today’s blog. Hope you are not offended .

  1. It’s currently fashionable to profess love and adoration of ‘gays’.

To me homosexuality is an aberration, one that so long as it harms no-one I tolerate with good humour. I’ve known some very clever ‘gays’ (meaning no disparagement I call them ‘duckies’).

It’s when two guys start snogging and swapping spit in public that the bile rises—a reaction I don’t get if a bloke and a bird do it. My own philosophy is simply “Live, and let let live” and “to each is own” — just don’t shove it in my face.

I too have an old-fashioned right to live—? And I’m not afraid to be Politically InCorrect. Sue me.
