Another day, another crisis

English: Depiction of the House vote on H.R. 3590 (the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act) on March 21, 2010, by congressional district. Democratic yea Democratic nay Republican nay No representative seated (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Originally my desire was to avoid this discussion. To me the whole thing is nothing more than political bull. But I cannot stick my head in the sand anymore.

Surfing the channels this morning shows much gnashing of teeth and bloviating regarding the government turning off the lights at midnight tonight at the same moment the affordable care act turns on the lights.

The irony is amazing. How can anyone of sane mind listen to the bs coming from our house of representatives and have any confidence in our government is beyond me.

A minority of radical Republicans in the house has complete control, and unless Speaker John Boehner grows a pair and stands up for what is best for the United States of America, we are in for a dismal future.

Come on Speaker Boehner, the affordable care act passed through congress and was signed into law by the president. It passed an examination by the U.S. Supreme Court; it has survived over 40 attempts at repeal.

Isn’t it time you told your caucus to change their diapers and get on with doing what you were elected to do?

If you do fail to do your job, you and all other members should be fired for incompetence. This should result in all members of congress having to go on unemployment and possibly apply for food stamps.

Well, I can dream can’t I?

Enjoy the dream friends and enjoy the day.

  1. A message from the RNC to the Tea Party.

“OUR GOVERNMENT WAS TAKEN FROM THE AMERICAN PEOPLE 4.5 YEARS AGO. WE SWORE WE WOULD DO EVERYTHING IN OUR POWER TO MAKE OBAMA FAIL AND WE HAVE KEPT OUR PROMISE. WE STALLED EVERY EFFORT TO HEAL THE ECONOMY BY NOT INITIATING A SINGLE JOBS BILL AND DRAGGING THE ECONOMY TO THE FISCAL CLIFF.

WE HAVE ALSO LEVERAGED OUR PARTNERS AT FOX AND CLEAR CHANNEL TO ENSURE YOU BELIEVE OBAMA CREATED THE MESS HE HAS BEEN TRYING TO CLEAN UP AND THAT THE DISASTER WAS A FRACTION OF ITS ACTUAL SIZE.

WE HAVE TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY BLOCKED DEMOCRATS FROM VOTING.

PLEASE IGNORE THE IMPROVEMENT IN OUR NATION’S ECONOMY AND REMEMBER OBAMA IS A BLACK MAN , AND AS A RESULT ALL DEMOCRATS ARE EVIL.

ITS TIME TO RESTORE SANITY AND TAKE BACK AMERICA.

    GOD BLESS AMERICA.”

    • Lesley, I like letter from the RNC to the tea party. So telling, so very telling. I just posted on facebook an open letter to the President, the letter asks that we be compassionate with the diaper rash the republicans in congress are suffering from. but it also suggests we stand firm so these people can grow up to be responsible adults. knowing in this life one does not always get everything one wants.

  4. Are Republicans the new Democrats?

Remember how in the 90′s Democrats used to whine and complain that Republicans won battle after battle because they were better organised, more disciplined and more ruthless? Well maybe the boot is on the other foot now…

The budget / Obama-care battle is looking like one that will (sadly) be a victory for the Dems. Poll after poll shows that voters will blame the GOP for the shut down. Which is why Boehner desperately wanted to avoid this battle and save his fire for the debt ceiling fight which is just around the corner. But could he control his caucus? No. Well, not nearly as effectively as Harry Reid controlled his. Not a single Dem senator broke ranks on the budget fight, even the “red state” ones who are facing tough re-election battles and could be hurt by this.

If Boehner had had his way, then the GOP in the house would have avoided this fight and instead been alive and well to win the debt ceiling fight. But he couldn’t control his flock as well as Reid controls his.

So we will bleed centre-ish support over this fight instead of scoring valuable points in a totally win-able debt ceiling battle…

And by being totally inflexible on any compromise to the budget, Reid has ruthlessly forced the first of these two big battles to be fought on terrain that favours him and will thus deliver a well-thought out victory for our Democrat friends.

    • Rredmeat, Do not remember the Democrats whining and complaining in the 90’s. This does not mean I disagree just that i do not recall it. The current battle is taking place because the Republican’s in the house cannot be controlled. there is a minority in the party that believe they were sent to congress for the sole purpose of repealing the affordable care act. they care about nothing except the repeal of this act. Boehner cannot control these people. The Republican party is in disarray because of this. The next battle will most likely follow a similar path. Last night the Republicans voted for and approved a resolution to “have a conference” with the senate to work out the differences in their budgets. This after the senate had requested a conference 18 times in the last few months. Boehner could not get his radicals to agree to one at any of those times. Now seeing they have actually been fighting a losing battle all this time they are trying to find away to save face. the Senate has said send a clean CR to us and keep the government open for business and then we can have conferences to discuss budgetary differences and perhaps come to a compromise. The Republicans were asked more then once last night to bring the CR up for a vote. They refused to do so knowing full well that it would pass and possibly get some members of their party primary-ed out of office. Sad to say for some the
Republican party is on it’s final days and will soon go the way of the WHIG party of years gone by. Can’t happen soon enough for me.

    • I need to remind everyone that Obamacare is THE LAW and it has been found CONSTITUTIONAL. We are not re-litigating this.
