This is my brother; my brother was born with Asperger syndrome. The cause of this is still unknown but it is believed to be at least partially genetic.
In this world we all have to play the hand with the cards we are dealt. There is no asking for a cut or re-deal, we must play on.
I am bringing this to your attention today in the hopes that it will help us all in dealing with the actions and behaviors of those who have been dealt a different hand than ours. Our cards determine our method of play. Play in this case, being dealing with life and the stresses inherent to it.
We all have our ways of dealing with stress. Some may get angry and shout out; some may go silent and back off. Others will use a diversion such as reading a book, playing a game, resorting to drugs or prayer. You may have another way of dealing with stress; there are indeed numerous ways to do so.
My brother at times will make strange gestures and grasp his shoulders tightly. He will at times make strange noises and sounds. This is my brother’s way of dealing with stress.
He is a good person and asks nothing more of the world than what we all ask; just to be accepted and loved.
He is my brother and I love him as a brother, I hope you can accept and love him as a fellow human in this complex world we all live in.
