Today is Armistice Day, created after WWI to commemorate the end of hostilities between Germany and the allies. The peace treaty was signed on the 11th day of the 11th month at 11 am. This holiday coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day. In America the day is referred to as Veterans Day, Armistice and Remembrance seem to have lost their punch. Most likely when one hears the term veteran; one is instilled with flag waving patriotism.

If you are one of those patriotic souls, consider this.

Thirty percent of homeless men in this country are veterans, if you really want to show your thanks and appreciation to our veterans, you should contact your Republican senator and express your concern with their decision to cut food stamps for veterans. Do it now!

And while you are on the phone ask them to show some action in getting veterans better health care and speeding up the process for getting veterans benefits.

In closing I will say thank you veterans for your sacrifices, may our elected officials consider your service and your needs everyday not just today.
