: a feeling of being satisfied with how things are and not wanting to try to make them better : a complacent feeling or condition.
Strange as it may seem with all the complaints we hear on a daily basis concerning bad roads, no decent jobs, Social Security going broke, excessive student loan debt. We still have a society that is somewhat complacent in its feeling about what is going on in this country.
This attitude most likely comes from the main stream media and their constant barrage of negative news stories.
This general negativity can be turned around, we can make this work for us. But we have to work to achieve a positive move in our country.
Take one of the most common complaints we hear. Social Security is going broke and will not be available to me when I reach retirement age. Nothing could be farther from the truth yet we hear it almost daily on MSM.
There are three easy fixes to this problem that could be implemented with a congressional bill and the stroke of a pen.
- Raise the retirement age. (this one not liked so much from the left)
- Increase the cutoff limit for paying SS taxes.
- Use means testing in awarding payments.
Now then to achieve this result we must shake off our complacent attitudes and do something. Namely support and work to get elected officials that support our goals.
Elizabeth Warren (D) Ma, is a champion of working on “people” projects and deserves our support.
In Michigan we have many candidates that also fill this requirement. Two that I want to mention here are:
Dr. Jeff Holmes. Dr. Holmes from Alma, Mi. is running for U.S. House in Michigan’s highly gerrymandered 4th district. A seat held by Dow Chemical’s Dave Camp for the past 20 or so years. Because of the gerrymandering this will not be an easy task but, it can be done.
Join those supporting Dr. Holmes, get involved if you can’t beat the streets, you can help by donating a few bucks to his campaign.
The second candidate I want to mention here is, Vince Mosca.
Vince is running for State House in Michigan’s 94th District. A district currently held by an Alec supported Republican. Vince is a young man that supports tuition relief for students, better support for local communities and local school districts. He also needs your support and I urge you to join us in supporting him.
