Another day another case of police brutality, another young person dies as the result of gunshot wounds.
Yes my friends not a day goes by without something along those lines making the headlines.
The vast majority of police brutality tends to fall upon minorities. The gun deaths appear to have no ethnic priority.
Racism and racist hate groups have reached a level not seen in 50 60 years. Not since the days of Mississippi Burning have we witnessed such violence and hatred in this the “land of the free.”
The oppressed masses in this country have been fed a steady diet of fear and hatred.
This fear and hatred leads to more and more guns and more and more distrust of anyone or everyone.
Many in this country think the only way to solve a problem is to kill it.
What a mess we have gotten ourselves into now.
Used to be times when the people could go to church to alleviate their fear and anxiety, to ease the suffering of their daily lives, not now. Many churches now, rather than giving solace, stoke the fires of anger and hatred.
Years ago I asked one of those part time preacher guys from Florida how he could justify his racist thoughts being a bible reading Christian. *He gave me a biblical response telling me of some guy that defied God’s command and looked back. God then condemned the sinner and told him he would be a marked man for all of eternity. And this of course became the preachers excuse for racism. The blacks bore the mark of their forefather’s sin.
*not being a student of the bible I cannot quote the exact verse but I am sure someone here can.
So, the Church seems to have lost its ability to bring solace and peace to the world. The police appear to have lost sight of their duty to serve and protect.
What now, where do we turn for help when help is so sorely needed in this once great country?
We must hammer our guns into plowshares.
We must turn off the hate radio that is destroying our very souls.
We must join together and fight the police brutality in our words and our actions. We must join together and insist that our churches go back to preaching love and understanding.
Go out and buy a cop a doughnut, tell him you love him and want to be loved back.
If your preacher begins lamenting about the evils of homosexuality or socialism, tell him/her to stop. Ask them to sermonize on the evils of debt. Ask them to preach love and kindness as in a “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
